Hog Heaven

This flower bed below is actually the front right garden bed on my house.  We won't talk about the left side of the house.  It's stupid.  It gets no rain whatsoever there because of the overhang and I feel really stupid standing out there watering the garden as it is pouring down rain.  So out of the 5 perennials that were there, 2 survived and have now been transplanted to the right and better side of the house.

The right flower bed used to be a different garden all together.  When we bought the house from a little old lady she had all roses in this garden.  Those roses were her pride and joy evidently.  She loved them so much that she left us written instructions on the proper care for these roses as they would last forever.  It wasn't until just a few weeks ago talking to the neighbor did we find out that this lady always had to buy a new rose bush every year as one would die.  Hmm.  That would explain the yearly death of a rose bush and inevitable purchase of one to replace it.  Well, no more little old lady- roses are done going in.  I will gladly attempt to keep the 3 remaining ones alive but I am not a big rose fan anyways.  I think the 3 roses fit well with the dogwood, phlox, dianthus, poppies, delphinium, black 4-leaf clovers, russian lavender, black eyed susan and a couple of other flowers that I need to look up the names of.

As for the name of this flower bed, Hog Heaven is derived from the collection of flying pigs that are scattered throughout the garden.  Actually, there is one pig that has no wings but that seems fair for the fact that he is completely metal and heavy- he wouldn't fly even if he had wings.  That would be my guess at least.
